The Saxon pearl of Brandenburg: Doberlug Castle is a place of remembrance for the transition of some parts of Saxony to the Kingdom of Prussia. The magnificent castle once belonged to the Electors of Saxony and is one of the most impressive testimonies of Saxon and Prussian history. The visitors experience an extraordinary Renaissance building, which was built on the basis of one of the oldest Cistercian monasteries.

The mighty four-winged Renaissance complex with towers and characteristic dwarf houses was completed in the 17th century. He's surrounded by a dry trench. The richly decorated gables, two stair towers in the courtyard and a stone gallery are important architectural details.

The special feature of the castle is the annual building. A building style that reflects the characteristics of a year. There was originally 1 tower for one year, 4 wings for the four seasons, 12 gables for the twelve months, 52 pinnacles for the 52 weeks in the year and about 365 windows for the number of days.

The monastery church and the refectory of the former Cistercian monastery are located in the immediate vicinity of the castle.

Epoch shaping architecture: Baroque (1756)
Condition of the castle: extensively renovated
Floor area of the castle: approx. 1600 m²
Belong to the castle: Monastery church, refectory

The castle houses the tourist information office of the town of Doberlug-Kirchhain and the Elbe-Elster-Land Tourism Association. An exhibition on the 850-year history of the Cistercians can be found in parts of the ground floor. Works by artists from the region can be seen in the rooms of the national exhibition.
