In honour of his deceased friend, the Russian tsar Alexander, Friedrich Wilhelm III had the Russian colony Alexandrovka built in 1826. The green areas were planned by Peter Joseph Lenné and should offer the Russian singers a special atmosphere for music and leisure. Today the ensemble is part of the world cultural heritage.
