In the Optics Industry Museum you learn that optics is more than just cut glass. More than 200 years ago, Johann H.A. Duncker invented the multigrinding machine in Rathenow. This invention made it possible to grind eleven glasses simultaneously.

Over 1000 optical instruments can be seen on around 450 square metres of exhibition space. From the small lens in the microscope to the giant beacon lens, visitors will find everything in the Optics Industry Museum. The history of optics is not neglected either. Who knows that the term "glasses" comes from a stone that enlarges things while looking through, the beryl.

Some particularly interesting exhibits of the exhibition - all from Rathenow production - are the first European wide-angle lens "Pantoscop", various lens systems for beacons, the world's first incident light microscope for normal film from 1951 and a replica of Duncker's famous multigrinding machine from 1801.

Experiments and small handicrafts complete the offer. Touching, trying out and participating are expressly desired.

The Optics Industry Museum is located on the top floor of the Rathenow Cultural Centre, which also houses a theatre with a varied programme of events for all age groups and a restaurant.
