The museum is located in the east wing of the former Franciscan monastery and invites you to discover! Exhibition themes are on 3 floors: archaeology discovery, city as experiment, explosive reformation, crises and wars, citizens and uniform. In addition to the museum tour with multimedia presentations, further tours are offered to discover the monastery complex. For children from 6 to 12 years there is the Mit-Mach-Mittelalter with costumes and certificate.

t Information for guests with reduced mobility

Short description

  • 3 designated disabled parking spaces available
  • Access to the exhibition rooms is infinitely variable via 2 different lifts (outside lift to the basement of the building, inside platform lift for all floors of the exhibition)
  • Guest toilet for guests with restricted mobility, infinitely variable. Door width: 93 cm, movement area in front of WC: >150 cm x Y>150 cm, right: >150 cm x 95 cm, left: >150 cm x 97 cm, handles available
Special features:
  • The main entrance of the monastery is only accessible via steps. Two alternative entrances are available for a visit to the museum:
    • The barrier-free entrance right next to the car park leads to the museum and monastery shop, the city information and the toilets.
    • A further side entrance is necessary to visit the exhibition rooms: an outdoor lift leads from the monastery garden to the basement of the museum.
    • At both entrances there is a bell with which the museum staff can be called.

      • The main entrance of the monastery is only accessible via steps.
      • Two alternative entrances are available for a visit to the museum:
        • The barrier-free entrance right next to the car park leads to the museum and monastery shop, the city information and the toilets. There is a bell at the car park entrance which can be used to call the museum staff to open the door from the inside. The door is double-leaf, passage width of one leaf 82 cm each.
        • A further side entrance is necessary to visit the exhibition rooms: an outdoor lift leads from the monastery garden to the basement of the museum. Its door is 89 cm wide. To operate the lift, museum staff can be called in with a bell.
      Further special features:
      • The individual exhibition rooms are continuously accessible, some of them with 4 cm thresholds are levelled with small ramps.
      • Most exhibits are well visible from a seated position. In the Reformation room, however, there are 2 pulpit exhibition objects that are only accessible via 2 levels. In a further exhibition room, a document cabinet can also only be reached via 1 step.
      • The fire protection doors are partly quite sluggish.

      • the platform of the lift measures 139 cm x 139 cm, but there is a narrow point of 97 cm x 139 cm. So far, however, guests with electric wheelchairs have also managed well.
      Second elevator to be used inside the building:
      • From the basement all other floors of the monastery can be reached by a passenger elevator inside the building.
      • It has a door width of 90 cm, the elevator car measures 140 cm x 108 cm, the controls are 95 cm high and the movement area in front of the elevator measures 125 cm x >150 cm in the basement and >150 cm x >150 cm in the other floors.

      • Two other function rooms in the monastery are only available to guests with limited mobility to a limited extent:
        • the stage "Kleiner Saal" is accessible from the inside via 3 steps, through the outside access from the herb garden via a step with a height of 12 cm. However, the door is only 72 cm wide.
        • The Wilhelm-Kempf-Saal can only be reached via 8 steps.

      • The Jüterbog railway station is approx. 30 - 45 minutes walk from the monastery, lifts are available.
