Built in 1791, the Noeldchen-Haus was extended in 2014 to include a modern extension, which has been open to visitors since January 2015. On an area of approx. 800 sqm, the museum presents the prehistory and early history of the Ruppiner Land as well as the history of the city of Neuruppin from its foundation to the present day. She also dedicates herself to Neuruppin personalities such as the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Theodor Fontane. Works by the Orient painter Wilhelm Gentz and the famous Neuruppin picture sheets, which made the city famous far beyond its borders in the 19th century, are also on display.
Within the permanent exhibition, visitors can gain insight into Theodor Fontane's thoughts in 20 listening stations. Thoughts and impressions about Neuruppin, the collection of the former museum, contemporaries or even descriptions of Ruppiner Switzerland provide insights into the 19th century. The renowned theatre and film actor Burghard Klaußner lends his voice to the Brandenburg poet.
The neighbouring temple garden is included in the overall concept of the museum and offers the opportunity to round off the museum visit with a walk in the footsteps of Crown Prince Friedrich.
