The district museum Bad Liebenwerda which was established in 1953/54 is located on the area of the former castle and palace complex, in direct neighbourhood to the Lubwartturm. The museum collects and researches the regional history of the "Schwarz-Elster-Land" within historical walls. The highlight of the collection is the section on the history of the regional travelling puppet theatre, which was designed according to a timeline. Here the former importance of the puppeteers and their puppet theatre in social life is told. The Saxon puppet theatre has been an important mass medium of bygone times as a folk theatre on strings.

The museum is also dedicated to the preservation of the musical heritage of the Graun brothers, who shone at Saxon and Prussian courts in the 18th century. The renovated museum building also offers special exhibitions on various topics on an area of 350 square metres.

The view from the Lubwartturm offers an impressive panoramic view of the town of Bad Liebenwerda. If you are planning an ascent, please contact the district museum in advance.

For registered groups, the museum also opens outside regular opening hours.

Accessibility by public transport: approx. 450 m (5 min) on foot from the Bad Liebenwerda bus station.
