Built in 1651 as a country residence for Louise Henriette, first wife of the Great Elector, Frederick I had Oranienburg Palace extended and splendidly furnished. Today the castle houses a collection of unique works of art, including a collection of paintings and examples of royal silver in the silver vault.

The oldest baroque castle of the Mark Brandenburg (from 1652) is located in the historical city centre of Oranienburg and today houses two museums. The Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten (SPSG) (Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation) exhibits 17th century works of art, a unique silver and porcelain chamber in the palace museum.
